According to the Sharktivity app, a Great White shark was spotted close to Plum Island on the morning of Monday, July 25.

The Sharktivity App tracks sightings backed by researchers, safety officials and people who use the app to upload photos for confirmation. Each sighting is verified by the New England Aquarium.

As global climate change has steadily increased the temperate Northeast waters, more and more sharks have been swimming closer to Massachusetts.

This shift has essentially forced Great Whites to leave their typical territories because they became too warm, according to an article from The Guardian. There was even a recent study that found that climate change was pushing tiger sharks to migrate further north.

These altered migrations thus make for more sightings and potentially more shark interactions with humans, To receive the latest shark sightings, you can download the Sharktivity app by clicking here.
